About Unusual Designer Gifts
Unusual Designer Gifts Ltd is a family-run online gift store based in Southampton, Hampshire. Since launching in 2017, we have built a carefully selected collection of around 950 distinctive gifts, home accessories and design-led products for a wide range of occasions.
Our aim is simple: to offer products that are a little different from the ordinary.
From stylish home accessories, lighting and unusual clocks to jewellery, retro music systems, garden gifts and original wall art, every product is selected for its design, quality and individuality.
Whether you are looking for a birthday present, wedding or anniversary gift, something for a new home or simply something unusual for yourself, our collection is designed to make finding something memorable a little easier.
Handmade Playing Card Picture Frames
One of the most distinctive parts of Unusual Designer Gifts is our collection of handmade Playing Card Picture Frames, which we design and create ourselves here in Southampton.
Using genuine playing cards, we create names, messages, quotes and humorous phrases before professionally framing each design to produce an individual piece of wall art.
The range includes a wide selection of ready-designed phrases as well as our popular personalised Playing Card Picture Frames, allowing customers to create their own personalised name, message, phrase or quote to suit the occasion. These are not mass-produced products. Each frame is individually assembled and finished by hand, making them particularly popular for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, new homes and other special occasions.
Meet the Founder – John Flowerdew
Unusual Designer Gifts was founded by John Flowerdew, whose background in professional commercial photography spans more than 40 years. Working with businesses, national brands and organisations throughout his photography career has given John a strong understanding of design, composition, presentation and attention to detail.
That experience influences both the products selected for Unusual Designer Gifts and the development of our own Playing Card Picture Frame collection. Alongside running Unusual Designer Gifts, John continues to work as a professional commercial photographer through Visual Pixel Commercial Photography. Visit Visual Pixel Commercial Photography
Carefully Selected Products
We work with established UK and European brands, specialist suppliers, designers and independent makers to find products that offer something distinctive.
Rather than trying to stock everything, we concentrate on products we believe offer the right combination of:
- distinctive design
- good quality
- originality
- practicality
- value
- gift appeal
Our range changes regularly as we discover new suppliers and introduce new collections.
This means you will find established favourites alongside new designs and unusual products that are not always readily available on the high street.
Customer Service Matters
Being an independent business means customer service is extremely important to us.
If you have a question about a product, delivery or an order, you are dealing with a small UK business rather than a large anonymous marketplace.
We pride ourselves on providing fast, efficient and responsive customer service, keeping customers informed and dealing with enquiries promptly. Customers receive dispatch and tracking information so they can follow their order through to delivery.
We want the experience of buying from Unusual Designer Gifts to be straightforward from the moment you find a product through to the moment it arrives.
Secure Payments and Flexible Options
Our website provides secure online ordering together with a choice of payment options.
Customers can pay using major debit and credit cards and choose Klarna at checkout. Find out more about Klarna
We continually work on improving the website, expanding our product range and making the ordering process as straightforward as possible across desktop, tablet and mobile.
