Best known for his nonsense poetry, notably The Owl and The Pussycat, Edward Lear (12 May 1812‰ÛÒ 29 January 1888) was an English artist, illustrator, musician, author and poet.
As an author, he is known principally for his popular nonsense collections of poems, limericks, songs, short stories, botanical drawings, recipes and alphabets including 'The Nonsense Book of Birds' and 'The Nonsense Alphabet'.
Our 'Nonsense Bird' collection from the British Library draws upon original illustrations from Lear's book of the same name to form a cheeky, fun, humorous and beautifully illustrative range.
